CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND, May 15, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — The Hero Awards today announced a literary adjunct to its existing AI-assisted project to create permanently evolving solution engines for the UN’s 169 Sustainability Targets. Called the World’s Greatest Human vs. AI Contest, the project combines human imagination with AI-led problem-solving to develop novel answers for the UN’s Targets, which are listed inside the 17 Agenda for Sustainability Goals, as formulated and revised during the UN Plenary Session in Geneva.
“We found that we need the human element provided by incisive impassioned writing focused on real solutions”, says CIO John Toomey. “The AI protocols provide the computational muscle, but we also need the inspiration provided by eloquent human creators who are intensely devoted to positive outcomes.”
Particularly needed are short opinion pieces on UN Goals #5 Gender Equality, #3 Good Health and Well-Being, #2 Zero Hunger, #4 Quality Education, and #13 Climate Action.
Since 2019, The Hero Awards has recognized individuals and teams advancing meaningful progress toward the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the rise of modern generative AI, the organization set out to build a methodology that makes heroism practical, accessible, and predictable– resulting in the current system.
“We designed a protocol the average participant can complete in about two or three hours,” said Education Director Amy Chang. “The outputs include a GPT listed on OpenAI’s GPT store, plus a continuously refreshed Innovation Engine built with Google’s NotebookLM, and, starting in 2026, a group collaboration and mind mapping tool based in Microsoft Loop. Together, these create 169 robust solution-evolvers that, alongside human judgment, keep generating new approaches to the Goals and Targets over time.”
“There hasn’t been an obvious route for everyday ‘heroes’ to earn recognition for sustained work on planetary challenges,” said Savithri Patel, Sustainability Director at The Hero Awards. “So we created a process that blends human judgment with AI—moving ideas across multiple models to make them more grounded, more practical, and less vulnerable to hallucinations. In our view, it helps participants ‘Be the Singularity’—to epitomize the moment when AI begins to outperform human intelligence.”
How the protocol works
The workflow begins by “priming” each of 7 AI systems with heavily tested prompts to keep them narrowly focused on generating actionable, real-world solutions. From there, each model extends and refines the prior model’s work—adding specificity, clarity, and verification steps as the proposal progresses.
The current best-performing and most accurate sequence is:
Claude Opus 4.7
ChatGPT 5.5 Instant
Gemini 3.1 Pro
Meta.ai Muse Spark
Copilot 5.5
Perplexity Pro
Deepseek V4 Pro
In practice, one SDG target is given to the first AI bot, then that output is handed to AI #2, and so on—until all seven systems have strengthened and stress-tested the plan.
Visibility, Preservation, and Growth
Finished projects are stored in The Hero Awards’ Academia.edu repository, ensuring they remain accessible for public evaluation, adaptation, and refinement. Champions of the program gain exposure through the group’s digital platforms, editorial content, and official media releases. Furthermore, recipients earn the right to pass the opportunity to address the specific Target on to subsequent individuals.
Quantifiable Influence on Proficiency and Results
The Hero Awards emphasizes that this process enhances both the quality of the work and the growth of the individual. “Every AI model possesses a unique ‘character’ with specific advantages and limitations,” Patel noted. “By engaging with all seven models, users do more than just optimize their technical output—they rapidly sharpen their own critical thinking and imaginative skills.”
Results from a 2022 pilot study revealed impressive outcomes: for every 100 finished protocols, 29 participants saw their work featured in mainstream media, 14 earned citations in scholarly or trade publications, 7 established NGOs or nonprofits related to their objectives, and 5 launched new startups. By 2026, Substack writers became the primary origin of high-quality new contributors.
“This is our method for making global leadership and societal well-being accessible to everyone,” Chang remarked. “While it requires effort, the process is engaging and utilizes well-known AI interfaces, fostering a worldwide perspective that makes driving progress feel attainable and deeply fulfilling.”
